New Zealands
New Zealand rabbits are an excellent multi-purpose breed. New Zealands typically weigh 9-12lbs, with does being slightly bigger than bucks on average. They are easily managed with grooming, handleability, and easy-going behaviors. New Zealands were bred to have a compact build with a smooth, short coat that come in various colors.
New Zealands come in 4 showable colors: red, white, blue and black. Their colors can be solid or broken patterned. There are, however, a variety of non-show colors produced when breeding different colors together, i.e. chestnut agouti and gold-tipped steel.
New Zealands are known for their large, reliable litters. Litter sizes tend to be anywhere from 5-10 kits per litter, with genetics playing a role in litter size.
Whether you are showing rabbits, breeding rabbits, or just want a pet, New Zealands are a great rabbit breed.
